Argosy University, whose name means “rich supply,” was formed in 2001 when the American Schools of Professional Psychology, the University of Sarasota and the Medical Institute of Minnesota joined to create a diverse and rich academic institution. With the merging of the three schools, Argosy combined 50 years of education experience to create one dynamic university.

The Illinois School of Professional Psychology, which was the first of the American Schools of Professional Psychology, was founded in 1976 by professionals who wanted a clinical psychology degree that emphasized teaching over research in doctorate degrees. The University of Sarasota began in 1969 when it was founded under a different name as a school for working adults. The Medical Institute of Minnesota was established in 1961 with a vision to prepare skilled allied healthcare personnel for medical technology fields.

Argosy University Application Requirements

Undergraduate students must provide an official high school and/or college transcript as well as a completed application for admission form. Requirements for application differ between undergraduate degree programs so students are encouraged to discuss the specific requirements with an admissions counselor.

Graduate students must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and programs have specific GPA requirements for undergraduate work. Students must also submit an application for admission, a personal goal statement, current resume and three recommendations. Official transcripts are also required for admission.

Argosy University Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition at Argosy University ranges from $450 to $578 per credit hour depending on which campus and program the student attends. Graduate degree tuition ranges from $564 to $1,197 depending on the campus and degree program chosen.

Financial aid is available in the form of grants, scholarships, loans and work-study options. Argosy University also accepts military and employment funded tuition. In order to qualify for financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Master of Arts (MA) in Sport-Exercise Psychology

The Master of Arts in Sport-Exercise Psychology at Argosy University educates students to function as performance enhancement specialists. Students are qualified for employment in private practice, athletic departments, as coaches, in education and many other areas where sport-exercise psychology is used. Students are provided with a foundation in applied sport psychology as well as an understanding of normal and abnormal psychological functioning.

To apply, students must have a bachelor’s degree and a GPA in undergraduate studies of:

• 2.7 for a bachelor’s degree OR
• 3.0 for the last 60 hours of coursework OR
• Between 2.0 and 2.7 in undergraduate work with the submission of a personal/professional goal statement, current resume, letter from a current employer and evidence of completing one undergraduate psychology course with the grade of “C” or better
